The management and care of critically ill patients is often a challenge. As new advances and clinical research develop, the impact and implications for nursing and medical staff continue to change. It is therefore essential that those working within the Critical Care areas have an understanding of the innovations and cost-effective resources available to them.Recently, Huntleigh have focussed on the concept of Therapeutic Patient Positioning within ICU to bring forward two products PRONimbus® and Acer®, complimenting the well established and renowned therapies already available to clinicians.
PRONimbus®
Developed and advanced in consultation with clinicians, PRONimbus is a portable based mattress replacement system offering simple, flexible solutions to key therapeutic interventions including uniquely, dedicated support for the Prone Position, clinically advocated as an effective method of improving oxygenation in patients with acute respiratory failure.Studies have shown the importance of positional changes for the mechanically ventilated patient. The ability to respond quickly to an individual patient need is critical. Early intervention is reported to have beneficial effects in the course of acute respiratory failure. Moving critically ill patients however, raises a number of management issues very often associated with a requirement to change the underlying support system.PRONimbus eliminates the need for patient transfer with features designed to work in partnership with existing protocols for patient management.Dedicated features include:
Adjustable head support platform (removable) with inflatable head cushion and comfort pads
Independent Head Section Deflate
Individual Cell Control delivered by unique Vent Valve system
Variable profiling delivered via Four Position Profile Control Valve
Advanced Dynamic Flotation Alternating Pressure Relief Therapy
HEELGUARD™
Anti-sink Torso Section
AUTO-MATT® Sensor Pad
ADVANTEX™ Cover with ACTIFRESH®
Slimline Pump Unit with Triple Action Biofilter
Benefits to both patient and healthcare professional include:
Optimised care of vulnerable pressure areas around the body
Assistance with the safe management of intubation lines and tubing ensuring physical and visual access at all times
Flexible anatomical positioning for most patient types up to 160kgs
Responds quickly from the point of delivery of care to the immediate clinical needs of the patient
Assistance provided with everyday nursing interventions such as CXR imaging
Allow staff to spend more time delivering hands on nursing care
