Dental straightening with the use of self-ligating appliances, supposedly have shorter average overall treatment times, but this is not supported by independent research.

Types of self-ligating braces include the Damon system , Clarity SL, Carriere LX® by Ortho Organizers, In-Ovation R, In-Ovation C, and In-Ovation LMTM by Dentsply GAC. These braces are typically made from stainless steel, but in some cases, are available in ceramic.
