The SphygmoCor : non-invasive assessment of the cardiovascular system

The SphygmoCor family of products provides tools for non-invasive assessment of the cardiovascular system and autonomic function. The technology that powers these products is centred on a transfer function that derives the pressure wave at the ascending aorta. The transfer function is a patented mathematical model of the properties of the brachial artery and provides important central data through a non-invasive recording of the pressure wave at the radial artery. SphygmoCor allows the physician to see the cardiovascular state of the patient, where it really matters – at the heart.
The SphygmoCor family includes:
SphygmoCor Px Aortic BP Waveform Analysis System
This non-invasive doctor’s office device takes a 10-second snapshot of the radial arterial pressure wave and derives the ascending aortic pressure wave, providing critical cardiovascular measurements including aortic Augmentation Index, Ejection Duration and Subendocardial Viability Ratio. The system may facilitate early identification of cardiovascular risk, and is essential for the management of patients with hypertension, diabetes, diastolic heart failure, and other high cardiovascular risk conditions such as renal disease and hypercholesterolaemia.

SphygmoCor Vx Pulse Wave Velocity System
The Vx system enables the measurement of the velocity of the pressure wave along a specific arterial segment. The velocity of the pressure wave along the artery is dependent upon the stiffness of the artery. This system is most commonly used to measure the aortic pulse wave velocity, by taking a reading at the carotid artery and the femoral artery. Aortic pulse wave velocity typically doubles between the ages of 30 and 60.

SphygmoCor Mx Aortic BP Monitoring System
The Mx system provides a continuous real-time derivation of the aortic pressure wave and key cardiovascular parameters, allowing beat-to-beat monitoring of the definitive blood pressure of the patient. The system is ideally suited for anaesthesiology, and intensive care environments.

Heart Rate Variability System
The HRV System provides a simple measure of autonomic function. The system allows analysis of both time and frequency domains, and measures of sympathetic and parasympathetic activity. The system allows valsalva and standing manoeuvre tests to be performed.
